Setting up our equipment isn’t always easy. Large crowds and large venues need a lot of sound for the most enjoyable experience. In this blog, we’ll talk about how we made it work at the biggest annual events in Chicagoland.
Sound Reinforcement for ZZ Top at the McHenry County Fairgrounds
The place? McHenry County Fairgrounds. The date? July 3rd, 2022. On this fateful day, we literally pulled sound off the walls.
Our great friends helped us make the performance memorable, including PK Sound, Stageline and, of course, ZZ Top. We had our work cut out for us with an outdoor 400ft throw, so we erected a large, vertical pattern of speakers to cover the front row and grandstand as well as the rear.
By our estimate, the hydraulic capabilities of Stageline’s stages and the remote-control capabilities of PK Sound’s speakers shaved off three quarters of potential setup time, reducing the process to a few hours.
Between excellent equipment and renowned rockstars, we could tell we’d knocked it out of the park for the crowd of 6,000 fans.
Indoor Sound on New Year’s Eve at Lake County Fairgrounds
As December’s bitter gusts descended upon us, we had a new challenge: New Year’s Eve at the Lake County Fairgrounds. This flat venue had an impressive throw of 400ft, and it was about 300ft wide. We had to cover this entire area with great sound.
Now, this venue was indoors, so there were more walls off of which to pull sound, and this is exactly where the remote-control capabilities of PK Sound’s speakers came in handy!
If somebody sets up speakers the wrong way, they can send sound into the wall instead of the crowd. The only way to adjust conventional speakers is to take them down and put them back up again.
With PK Sound’s speakers, we didn’t need to worry about the direction the speakers were facing until they were already up because we could adjust them with remote controls. Using conventional speakers would’ve easily tripled the time. Because we were so quick, the promoter had extra time to set up amazing balloons and other decorations.
Once we’d set up our effective sound equipment, the crowd of 4500 celebrators had a great time and couldn’t wait for next year!
